We’re kicking off a new dub club with the brand-new project Dangerman, Danish bass heavyweight Mbizo, and Aarhus Volume’s very own Supernova.

Three different takes on dub, bass and soundsystem culture.

Dangerman

‍

Stranded in Copenhagen, two masked aliens have resurrected a lost art: The true live dub mix. Armed with trombone, trumpet and percussion, they deconstruct the music in real time, directly on the mixing desk. Dangerman is a raw collision of heavy reggae, cumbia and analog synths, played as an attempt to understand an alien world.

Here, the backing track is replaced by live horns, stretched and manipulated in a sweaty dub universe, an unpredictable, organic live experience where everything is created and disappears in the moment.

‍

One half of Dangerman is Arto, who has taken on a variety of characters: The man inside Yo Johnny, the producer behind Tobias Rahim's, Stor Mand, and the calypso-loving Spanish-singing, Arto.

‍

One thing is for sure – whatever Arto does, the quality is on top, and you can feel the joy he puts in to every piece.

Mbizo

‍

Mbizo is an established name in the Danish electronic underground scene, representing the modern bass and soundsystem culture. With a conscious foundation in dub, he fuses genres such as dubstep, UK funky, grime and breaks. 

‍

Active as both a DJ and live artist, he has supported acts like The Bug & Flowdan and performed with British and Danish MC’s including Killa P, Crazy D, Raske Penge and Wesmo among others. Mbizo has performed widely across Danish festivals, clubs and live venues, including Smukfest, Bas Under Buen, Strøm, Karrusel, Vinterjazz, SPOT, Distortion, Poolen and ALICE.

His mixtape for Strøm was selected by Resident Advisor as “Mix Of The Day”, titled “An impeccable production mix”. He has contributed to 30+ music releases (both digital and physical), ranging from self-releases, compilations and to official remixes for artists such as Bikstok, Raske Penge & Klumben and AV AV AV.

Mbizo’s music has also received airtime on Danish national radio and BBC Radio 6, as well as on numerous mixtapes around the world. 

‍

In addition, he is a member of Lokal and previously active in Nørrebro and Vesterbro Bas Klub.

Supernova

‍

Supernova is a staple of Aarhus’ subcultural scene. He digs deep into dub and steppas, bringing a carefully selected stack of vinyl and a strong sense of what works on a dancefloor. Expect heavy bass, stripped-back rhythms and the occasional curveball.
